Native Grass Lawn Spaces

We understand why people like having lawns. They are great areas for kids and pets to play and families to enjoy spending time outdoors to relax or recreate.
However, it's no secret that conventional grass uses a lot of water, and with water becoming more and more scarce, conventional lawns in Colorado are not sustainable.
On top of this, conventional grass lawns are often treated with dangerous chemicals and synthetic fertilizers to keep them green and weed-free. These chemicals are harmful to our environment, ourselves and our pets.
But did you know there are alternative options to the conventional grass lawn?
That's right! Native grass lawns are becoming a popular choice among those who are seeking a more environmentally-friendly option for a lawn space. Once established, these lawns need little-to-no supplemental water. They can survive off seasonal rainfall alone, or for a slightly greener lawn can be watered every-so-often. They require little maintenance and flourish without the use of harmful chemicals and fertilizers.

Other ways to achieve a more eco-friendly lawn space:
- Reduce the size of your existing lawn by removing a selected section of grass and extending surrounding garden beds. Then plant more native, pollinator-friendly plants!

-If you hire a company for lawn maintenance, ensure they do not use harmful pesticides or fertilizers.

- Dial back on watering and see how your grass performs - we are often using more water on our lawns than needed!

- Over-seed an existing lawn space with more drought-tolerant options like clover or yarrow.
