Benefits of Trees and Shrubs

Urban and community forests are essential to the health and wellbeing of all living things. Trees and shrubs provide shelter, shade, and forage for us and our local wildlife. They filter air and water, removing harmful pollutants and improving the overall health of the environment. They also play a huge role in sequestering carbon from the atmosphere. As our cities grow and climactic patters become more extreme, it is crucial that we continue to support our urban canopies. This means maintaining the heath of our existing trees through ongoing maintenance, and planting new trees that are best suited to our local climate.

Pruning

Structural pruning is essential for the health and longevity of trees and shrubs in urban forests. The goals of pruning are to remove dead or diseased wood, and to establish a trees ideal structure by creating good spacing between branches, promoting strong attachment angles, and supporting the dominant central leader. It is best performed when trees are young and malleable, but is also essential for mature trees to protect them and keep them healthy for years to come.

Here in Colorado, we often experience high winds and extreme weather. When trees are not properly pruned to ensure structural integrity, large limbs can fail inflicting damage to property and posing major safety concerns. Pruning can save money and lives!

Home Orchard Pruning

Fruit trees are pruned in a much different way than many of our other landscape trees, and it can vary from one species of fruit tree to another. The main objectives are to keep the tree small enough so all the fruit can be harvested, to create sturdy branches so they don’t break under the weight of the fruit, and to promote great tasting fruit every year by using the thinning method.

Planting

Before the planting begins, one must consider the planting site, the tree selection, and irrigation, among many other factors. During planting and after installation, there are a number of steps that must be followed in order to give your new tree its best chance at a long and healthy life.

Planting trees is such a great way to add beauty and value to your property, while benefitting wildlife and the local climate.

Removals

Trees, like any organism have a limited life span. There comes a time that we may need to remove a tree on our property due to death or disease, among other reasons. Tree removal can be a dangerous task, and attempting to do so without proper training can result in damage to property or personal injury. Always hire a professional tree care service like Painted Plains to remove a tree.

We also recommend planting a new tree to replace the one that has been removed in order to avoid losing more of our precious urban canopy
